Leon Holmes was not, by his own admission, a very attentive school student. “But the strange thing was” says Leon, “the punishment for misbehaving in class was a trip to the art room. I soon realised the naughtier I was, the more time I got to spend painting.”

In December 2008, Leon Holmes sadly left the Henry Street Gallery, moving to
5 Beach Street Fremantle.
For those who have experienced the joys of moving, you‘ll understand that it is a much bigger task than what you first expect. Moreover, try to pick up a studio, gallery and living space and cart it across town. Needless to say, just as the level of the rubbish bin grew higher, so too did the list of things to do.
However, taking this as an opportunity to refresh his approach, Leon stepped back and allowed the image to refocus. Experimenting in new styles, techniques and subjects, horizons stretched much further, and new opportunities became the motives of 2009.
A limited edition of prints are now available, with only fifty copies of each being sold accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by the artist. Toodyay hosted several of Leon‘s original artworks and prints in the last weekend of April. Coincidentally a new affiliation with the Mill Gallery in York was formed and during the York Jazz Festival in October Leon will feature as the artist in residence at The Mill.
From August 19 - 23 other artists, art lovers or just people with a keen interest will join Leon travelling up north where the inspiration seekers will paint and sketch on location. For more information please contact the artist.
